Cancer: its Causes and its Cure

Alan Wighton has written a fascinating e-book on alternative treatments for cancer. He covers the causes of cancer, healing foods, cancer-causing chemicals and alternative treatments including vitamin B17 otherwise known as Laetrile, the controversial Hoxsey herbs and Ozone therapy.

MESOTHELIOMA is a rare type of cancer affecting the lining of the lungs and often the heart and abdomen. Around 2,000 to 3,000 cases are diagnosed each year in the US, these make up about three percent of all cancer diagnoses.

Mesothelioma is more common in men than in women and all forms, except for benign mesothelioma, are terminal as there is no known cure.

The cause of mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos. Asbestos fibres are inhaled or ingested and become lodged in body cavities, causing inflammation or infection.

Asbestos is a naturally-occurring fibrous substance widely used in the 20th century in a number of different industries. Authorities became aware of the hazards associated with its use and warnings were issued in the mid-1970s. Since then its use has began to decline.

Known Carcinogens

OCCUPATIONAL induced cancers continue to affect large areas of the workforce. Some of the worst offenders are: agriculture related carcinogens, asbestos, dioxin, metalworking fluids, methylene chloride, mining industry-related carcinogens, perchloroethylene and petroleum industy-related carcinogens which include benzene, diesel exhaust and polycyclic aromatic

hydrocarbons (PAHs).

Asbestos

While concern is growing about the dangers of repeated exposure to herbicides and pesticides, most authorities now admit that exposure to asbestos can cause mesothelioma, a type of cancer that primarily affects the lining of the lungs, but can also affect the heart and abdomen. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was used to manufacture products such as cement, fireproof textiles, paper, brake linings, vinyl floor tiles, plastics and sealants. It was also widely used for building insulation. Anyone working in old buildings with asbestos is at greater risk for a variety of cancers including lung and gastrointestinal cancers.

Dioxin

Dioxin is a known human carcinogen and is linked to higher rates of all types of cancer. It is an environmental estrogen particularly associated with higher rates of reproductive cancers and is a by-product of any chlorinated compound. As dioxin is a waste product, anyone who works in the plastics industry or is exposed to bleached paper or incinerators is exposed to dioxin.

Methylene Chloride

Methylene chloride is a liquid used in food, furniture and plastics processing. It is used in paint removers. Methylene chloride can cross the placenta and affect fetal development.
